Jesus Campos papers Bulk: 1969-1975

Campos' civil rights' files contain correspondence, newspaper clippings, address books and calendars, reports and proposals, brochures and pamphlets, copies of (proposed) state and federal legislative bills, reference and research materials, certificates, etc. The materials include information about Leavenworth Penitentiary and women in the labor force but mostly focus on individual Hispanics and discrimination against Hispanics, particularly in the workforce. This includes materials from working with the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and the City of Topeka's Human Rights Commission. Also in the collection are some personal papers, including grade books from when Mr. Campos was in 4th and 5th grade in the late 1930s. The bulk of the collection dates from 1969 - 1975.

Jesus "Jesse" Campos was an activist for the Mexican-American community in Topeka and throughout the state. He was an active member of LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens), the GI Forum, and other Hispanic organizations, as well as serving on various advisory committees and commissions concerning discrimination.
